Rumer Has It: Willis to Guest Star on Army Wives

Rumer Willis, an up-and-coming actress and the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has landed a guest-starring role on Army Wives.

According to TV Guide, Rumer Willis will play the wife of a soldier who has been injured in Iraq. Her episode is slated to air October 12.

Rumer Willis

Willis recently was named one of People's Most Beautiful People, and can also be seen on the big screen in the new film The House Bunny.

For Actress, Army Wives Role Sparks Admiration

Brigid Brannagh didn't want to say the wrong thing.

Not because the Army Wives actress had something to hide or she was worried she'd offend her interviewer. She carefully chose her words because the show has made her a de facto spokesperson for the men and women of the U.S. military and their families.

While reflecting on her recent trip to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, she tried desperately to remember the names of each soldier whose stories moved her (there were many, and she remembered almost all).

"I can't even describe Walter Reed," Brannagh said. "They're missing limbs, and they have permanent disfigurement, and they're in incredible pain and have any number of things that the rest of us can't imagine, and yet they were so positive - so grateful to be there and be well cared for and be home. And they feel luckier than their counterparts."

"I'm not kidding - I felt like a jerk. What could I possibly think or do to make this better in any way? I definitely think Walter Reed is a place to donate."

Brannagh and some of her Army Wives co-stars visited Walter Reed this summer for a special screening of their Lifetime drama series.

On the Air

Brannagh plays Pamela Moran, wife of a Delta Force soldier. She's a former cop who now hosts her own radio show targeting the women on post.

Army Wives, which has been a huge hit for Lifeime on Sunday nights, is filmed in Charleston, S.C., where the fictional Fort Marshall is located.

While other stars in front of the camera include Hollywood imports like Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue) and Catherine Bell (JAG), many of the faces behind the camera are imported from a city about four hours north of Charleston.

"Maybe half of our crew is from Wilmington," Brannagh said.

Army Wives actually marks the second time Brannagh has worked with Wilmington-based filmed crews, but the last time, she came to them.

Brannagh filmed a guest role for the made-in-Wilmington supernatural drama American Gothic in 1995.

Army Wives Marathon Planned For Labor Day

Lifetime will close out the summer with an Army Wives marathons during the Labor Day weekend, airing all 11 episodes from Season 2 of the hit series.

The first two episodes of the second season, "Would You Know My Name," and "Strangers in a Strange Land," will air at 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday night.

On Monday, September 1, Lifetime will telecast the remaining nine episodes of the second season to date of Army Wives, airing them from noon-9 p.m.

Army Wives is basic cable’s top-rated drama for women 18-49. It is currently averaging 3.9 million viewers in its Sunday 10 p.m. timeslot.

The Army Wives Cast

The three remaining new episodes of Season 2 - "Great Expectations," "Safe Havens" and Payback" - will air in September, beginning the following week.

Interestingly, Season One of Army Wives contained 13 episodes and Season Two 14, while next year's Season Three will reportedly consist of 18.

Seamus Dever Heating Up Army Wives

In response to a recent reader inquiry, the intriguing new character of Dr. Chris 'Getti' Ferlinghetti is played by veteran actor Seamus Dever.

Dever, 32, has more than two dozen TV and film roles to his credit - also this year, he's played another doctor, Ian Devlin, on General Hospital.

On Army Wives, Getti has been introduced as a man who one of the primary characters, Denise Sherwood (the lovely Catherine Bell), gravitates to as she tries to find herself. This causes great tension between Denise and her military husband Frank.

Seamus DeverBell, Catherine

Interestingly, Catherine Bell and Seamus Dever previously worked together on an episode of JAG, on which she starred from 1995-2005.

Army Wives Cast to Attend Fundraiser

The cast of Army Wives probably will attend a benefit for the homeless in North Charleston, where the show is based and filmed, on September 6.

Eight Army Wives cast members, including the acclaimed Catherine Bell and Kim Delaney, will step out of a limo onto the red carpet for the $125-per-ticket homeless shelter fundraiser.

The event will take place at Quarters H and I on the old Navy base - shown in the military-themed series as the base's headquarters - according to North Charleston Grants Administrator Shannon Praete.

"It will be a fun night for a great cause," Praete said. "It will be a little bit of Hollywood in North Charleston."

Michael and Joan

Other stars of the show, which has been picked up by Lifetime for a third season, who will attend include Sally Pressman, Brigid Brannagh, Wendy Davis, Sterling Brown, Brian McNamara and Drew Fuller.

The fundraiser will feature cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction of donated items such as gift certificates and dinners.

All money raised will go toward the proposed shelter for women and children called SOLD, for Sustainable Opportunities for Life and Dreams. The shelter will be located on 3.75 donated acres on Leary Street near the new Remount Venture LLC defense- contracting facility off North Rhett Avenue.

The $3.6 million facility will have 148 beds and be run by North Charleston Housing Authority.

Creator Katherine Fugate Leaving Army Wives

Army Wives' chief officer has been removed from duty.

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that Katherine Fugate, creator of Lifetime's top-rated drama ever, has been shown the door.

"Army Wives is a fantastic tribute to the real life heroes serving in our armed forces and I'm so happy to have been a part of it," Fugate said.

"With the show such an established hit, now seems like a logical time for me to step away and focus on developing new projects."

Army Wives

Rumors of lingering behind-the-scenes tension between Fugate, Lifetime and ABC Studios have persisted pretty much since day one.

This is evidenced by the fact that Army Wives weathered three show-runner changes in less than two years (Season 2 is nearing its end).

The most recent Army Wives personnel switch came this spring, when Dee Johnson was relieved of duty and replaced by Nick Thiel.

In its own statement, ABC Studios said:

"Katherine Fugate is incredibly talented and we’re grateful for her work in creating Army Wives. We are very happy to have had the opportunity to work with her."

So what does this mean for Army Wives? Probably not much. Thiel has pretty much been running the show these past few months, and he's not going anywhere. An Army Wives source tells EW: "Everyone is very happy with Nick."

"Mothers & Wives" Preview

Below is a preview for this Sunday's all-new episode of Army Wives, entitled "Mothers & Wives." It picks up right where "Duplicity" left off ...

Burning Questions From Last Night's Army Wives

After last night's episode, "Duplicity," Army Wives Insider is left with a number of burning questions. Tell us what you think of the following:

  • Was it just us, or were there mixed signals from Lifetime about whether last night's episode was going to be a repeat?
  • Are Lifetime's promos for subsequent episodes too revealing in the Army Wives spoiler department, or do you like them as is?
  • Does the plot line revolving around Trevor's prescription addiction interest you, or are you just tired of it at this point?

Davis, Wendy

  • Is Joan (pictured) in the clear (physically and otherwise) or will see once again put her baby and herself at risk as she tries to ward off Evan?
  • After last night, how does the Denise-Frank saga play out?
  • We know it's kind of beside the point, but seriously, do high school kids have any rights?
  • And lastly: Pamela's girl-on-girl moment - hot or not?

Army Wives All About Heart

Hollywood efforts showcasing the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts mostly have failed to muster viewers. But Army Wives marches to a different tune.

According to USA Today, the Lifestime drama quickly became the network's highest rated show when it premiered in June 2007, averaging 3.7 million viewers in its first season and topping basic cable shows among women.

The ensemble show, whose talented cast includes Catherine Bell (below), Kim Delaney and Sally Pressman, with many superb supporting actors, is based on Tanya Biank's book, Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives.

"The backdrop is very contemporary," was how Lifetime's Maria Grasso explained Army Wives' military-themed appeal, particularly among women.

"The show is apolitical. It's not for or against the war."

Instead, Army Wives deals with home-front issues confronting spouses, from post-traumatic stress syndrome and single parenthood to alcoholism and infidelity.

These matters confront scores of military families but are rarely explored in the media, says Army Wives creator Katherine Fugate.Continue Reading...
