Lifetime Enlists Army Wives For Season Three

In response to a number of questions we've received, there will in fact be a Season Three of Army Wives next year.

The Season Three signing was actually first announced back in July, when Season Two was barely underway - a rare move in television and one that illustrates Lifetime's commitment to the series. It will be a long off-season, but at least we know a new season lies ahead!

New Army Wives Episode: "Great Expectations" Preview

Below is a preview for the upcoming episode of Army Wives, "Great Expectations," airing this Sunday at 10 p.m. Looks like the drama is in full force ...

Cable Shows Aggressively Courting Female Audiences

In the beginning, Starbuck was a man.

The cocky, cigar-chomping lead of Battlestar Galactica was known for his fighter-pilot skills and having a thing for the ladies.

But when the Sci Fi Channel brought the show, originally a 1970s series, in 2004, Sci Fi exec Dave Howe and series creator Ronald Moore turned Starbuck into a woman.

As more shows compete for a dwindling TV audience, aggressive efforts like Howe’s to woo female viewers have become common, especially since many female viewers of original programming tend to be more affluent.

Wives

Lifetime’s Army Wives, about a group of women living on an Army post, is a perfect example, leading all cable series in female viewership.

Army Wives Marathon Planned For Labor Day

Lifetime will close out the summer with an Army Wives marathons during the Labor Day weekend, airing all 11 episodes from Season 2 of the hit series.

The first two episodes of the second season, "Would You Know My Name," and "Strangers in a Strange Land," will air at 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday night.

On Monday, September 1, Lifetime will telecast the remaining nine episodes of the second season to date of Army Wives, airing them from noon-9 p.m.

Army Wives is basic cable’s top-rated drama for women 18-49. It is currently averaging 3.9 million viewers in its Sunday 10 p.m. timeslot.

The Army Wives Cast

The three remaining new episodes of Season 2 - "Great Expectations," "Safe Havens" and Payback" - will air in September, beginning the following week.

Interestingly, Season One of Army Wives contained 13 episodes and Season Two 14, while next year's Season Three will reportedly consist of 18.

Army Wives Cast to Attend Fundraiser

The cast of Army Wives probably will attend a benefit for the homeless in North Charleston, where the show is based and filmed, on September 6.

Eight Army Wives cast members, including the acclaimed Catherine Bell and Kim Delaney, will step out of a limo onto the red carpet for the $125-per-ticket homeless shelter fundraiser.

The event will take place at Quarters H and I on the old Navy base - shown in the military-themed series as the base's headquarters - according to North Charleston Grants Administrator Shannon Praete.

"It will be a fun night for a great cause," Praete said. "It will be a little bit of Hollywood in North Charleston."

Michael and Joan

Other stars of the show, which has been picked up by Lifetime for a third season, who will attend include Sally Pressman, Brigid Brannagh, Wendy Davis, Sterling Brown, Brian McNamara and Drew Fuller.

The fundraiser will feature cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction of donated items such as gift certificates and dinners.

All money raised will go toward the proposed shelter for women and children called SOLD, for Sustainable Opportunities for Life and Dreams. The shelter will be located on 3.75 donated acres on Leary Street near the new Remount Venture LLC defense- contracting facility off North Rhett Avenue.

The $3.6 million facility will have 148 beds and be run by North Charleston Housing Authority.

Creator Katherine Fugate Leaving Army Wives

Army Wives' chief officer has been removed from duty.

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that Katherine Fugate, creator of Lifetime's top-rated drama ever, has been shown the door.

"Army Wives is a fantastic tribute to the real life heroes serving in our armed forces and I'm so happy to have been a part of it," Fugate said.

"With the show such an established hit, now seems like a logical time for me to step away and focus on developing new projects."

Army Wives

Rumors of lingering behind-the-scenes tension between Fugate, Lifetime and ABC Studios have persisted pretty much since day one.

This is evidenced by the fact that Army Wives weathered three show-runner changes in less than two years (Season 2 is nearing its end).

The most recent Army Wives personnel switch came this spring, when Dee Johnson was relieved of duty and replaced by Nick Thiel.

In its own statement, ABC Studios said:

"Katherine Fugate is incredibly talented and we’re grateful for her work in creating Army Wives. We are very happy to have had the opportunity to work with her."

So what does this mean for Army Wives? Probably not much. Thiel has pretty much been running the show these past few months, and he's not going anywhere. An Army Wives source tells EW: "Everyone is very happy with Nick."

Burning Questions From Last Night's Army Wives

After last night's episode, "Duplicity," Army Wives Insider is left with a number of burning questions. Tell us what you think of the following:

  • Was it just us, or were there mixed signals from Lifetime about whether last night's episode was going to be a repeat?
  • Are Lifetime's promos for subsequent episodes too revealing in the Army Wives spoiler department, or do you like them as is?
  • Does the plot line revolving around Trevor's prescription addiction interest you, or are you just tired of it at this point?

Davis, Wendy

  • Is Joan (pictured) in the clear (physically and otherwise) or will see once again put her baby and herself at risk as she tries to ward off Evan?
  • After last night, how does the Denise-Frank saga play out?
  • We know it's kind of beside the point, but seriously, do high school kids have any rights?
  • And lastly: Pamela's girl-on-girl moment - hot or not?
